Giong Thi Dam – Go Quan Cung relic is located in An Phuoc commune, Tan Hong district, Dong Thap province. On September 26, 1959, the People’s Armed Forces unit of Battalion 502 in Kien Phong province destroyed an enemy battalion at Giong Thi Dam – Go Quan Cung right in the first move.
In 2 days, 42 gunmen of the 502 Battalion fought 2 battles, destroying Company 12, Company 7 and the Command Board of Battalion 3 of the 43rd Regiment, the 23rd Division of Saigon; defeated the Regiment-level operation organized by the North Division… The 502 Battalion also performed well in military mobilization, education, culturalization and prisoner release. The unit was awarded many merit medals, thousands of officers and soldiers were awarded medals and medals of all kinds, and was awarded the title of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces by the State President in 1976. After the draw Binh unified the 502 Battalion to fulfill international obligations to help Cambodia and is continuing to promote the tradition of heroic units, ready to fight to build stronger and stronger forces.
The victory of Giong Thi Dam – Go Quan Cung was the first excellent victory of the local army unit of the province when he had just been sworn to change the name of the battalion to 502 Battalion for 3 days; is the early and greatest military victory. Historical victory Giong Thi Dam – Go Quan Cung entered the historical legend of the war against the US to save the country, such as the “early thunder of the season” that started the struggle in the South.
In order to mark the heroic historical event, educating the revolutionary tradition for the young generation, in 1999, Giong Thi Dam – Go Quan Cung victory flower park and monument was built in An Phuoc commune, Tan Hong district.
In 2004, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ranked Giong Thi Dam – Go Quan Cung Victory Monument as a National Historic Site.
The overall layout of the monument was generalized by author Pham Muoi – Former Head of Vietnamese sculpture with 03 characters standing on a canoe waving across the vast country in a position ready to fight with confidence of victory. The monument is 25m high in reinforced concrete, marble statue base, built on an area of 50,000m2.
